I have always loved the Statue of Liberty, ever since I was a little kid. I always did, and still do, look for her, every time I get close to the city. I have visited the Liberty Island a few times, but I haven't been back in a long time. I really want to go back, and there is a few reasons for that.
I want to go back, and go up to the crown observatory. Back when I last went, I was very young, and also the crown was still closed, since after 9/11. The top of the pedestal, was the highest that you could go up. Now it is re-opened, and all redone, so I really want to climb up the 354 steps of the spiral staircase, to the world famous crown.
The Island itself is also very beautiful. It used to be called Bedloe Island, and was an old war fort, before the Statue was built. It also is still the base, as the eleven pointed star-shaped base is still the old war base.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France, in the honor of the United States of America's centennial year of 1876. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi modeled the Statue of Liberty in his studio in Paris, and the face is modeled after his mother. He also employed someone who is pretty famous to build the internal frame. Gustave Eiffel... yes the man who built the Eiffel Tower, also helped build the Statue of Liberty. It was opened on October 28th, 1886, with the help of then-President Grover Cleveland.
I strongly suggest that everyone go and see the Statue of Liberty. Like I said about the Boat Tours last week, and Ellis Island three weeks ago, I feel like the views that you can get from Liberty Island, and also from the top of the Pedestal and the Crown, are so unparalleled guys. The views of Lower Manhattan from the top of the Statue are insane!
Like I said, growing up I was so in love with the Statue of Liberty. I actually was her as a Halloween costume about ten years ago. I also knew every single statistic thing about this Statue, when I was like five. I am not joking about anything here. I used to be so enthralled with the Statue of Liberty, and I am so not ashamed about it!
So I hope you all enjoyed reading this, and would one day, want to go and visit the Statue of Liberty!
Have you ever gone to see the Statue of Liberty? Would you ever go see the Statue of Liberty? What do you like about the Statue of Liberty?
