The lyrics of this song are so beautiful. The first verse says, "I Can Only Imagine, what it will be like, when I walk, by your side. I Can Only Imagine, what my eyes will see, when your face is before me. I Can Only Imagine." Then the chorus goes, "Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for you Jesus, or in awe of you be still? Will I stand in your presence, or to my knees will I fall? Will I sing Hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all? I Can Only Imagine, I Can Only Imagine."
The second and last verse says, "I Can Only Imagine, when that day comes, and I find myself standing in the Sun. I Can Only Imagine, when all I will do, is forever, forever worship you. I Can Only Imagine, I Can Only Imagine." Then the chorus repeats twice and the song ends.
I love this song because it has such a great message. Its message is that the speaker can only imagine what he or she is going to do when they reach heaven. Are they going to go crazy in worship, or are they going to be scared stiff in awe of God. Are they going to be dancing, or standing upright. It really is a great question to ask yourself, in what are you going to do when you get up there.
I learned this song in Mrs. Zider's class during like the second week of my Freshman year of Kellenberg Memorial High School, all the way back in September of 2011. I also remember when we used to sing this song during our school masses. I was lucky enough to see MercyMe play this song, in a post-game concert at Citi Field, after a Mets game a couple of years ago.
Also, when we were down in Disney for my senior trip last May, we were surprised with this song, and when I say every single person, no matter how tough or 'cool' you were sung this song, I mean that every single person was singing this song. It was a tear-jerker for sure!
Anyways, I hope that you all enjoy this song, and love it as much as I do!
Did you guys enjoy this song? Do you like the song as much as I do? Do you think that this song has a great message?
