For my first post of the new year, I am doing my fifth Film Friday. Since we are past New Year's and Christmas, they are going to be normal movies now. For this Film Friday I am going to write about one of my favorite films of all-time, and one that coincides with Bowl Day today. I am going to pick "The Waterboy".
I love this film so much. This is one of those films that I always talk about, in which you can watch them any time of the day, any time of the year, a thousand times, and you'll still laugh. The jokes never stop coming, and the star power in this movie is insane as well. Adam Sandler, Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler, and a few other real life football celebrities, like Dan Fouts, Lee Corso, and Lawrence Taylor.
The whole plot of the film is that Bobby Boucher isn't allowed to play football, because his mamma don't like 'foosball', and says that it is for the Devil. He decides he wants to go to college, and he wants to be the Waterboy for the football team. The team sucks, and he is taunted by some of the players. He doesn't like being made fun of, so he tackles them really hard, and the coach takes notice. They put him on the team, and he records 16 sacks in a game. He uses his anger to help his team out. He helps lead his team from the basement of the NCAA, to the Bourbon Bowl, and he helps them win it.
This movie is quoted all the time in my family for two reasons. One, because it is an hysterical movie, and Two, because I was the waterway of my football team for three years, from my sophomore year, until senior year. I had my own cheers by the cheerleaders and everything. I felt so cool, and I quoted this movie like there was no tomorrow.
Also my father and I quote this movie every time the Jets game comes on, because most of the time, Dan Fouts, the color commentator in the last clip I posted here on the blog, is the color commentator of those games, and we always quote him when he says "Because he didn't hold anything back!", when something good happens in the game. He has said this line a few times during those broadcasts, and my fatter and I go ballistic with the quotes after that.
It is so impossible to watch this movie, and not laugh at the stupid jokes and moments in this film. Next to the Dan Fouts quotes, my next favorite lines are from Rob Schneider's character, his famous "You Can Do It!" Every line in this movie is golden, and I strongly encourage you to watch this movie the next time it's on the TV, if you haven'
Have you ever seen the movie before? Would you want to see it? If you have seen it, what is / are your favorite part(s)?
